"Will Melania Trump wear a headscarf in Saudi Arabia?"

I bet she does.

If she does, the Left and the Media (but I repeat myself) will sh*t all over the Trumps.

If she doesn't, the Left and the Media (but I repeat myself) will sh*t all over the Trumps.

If someone asks the White House, I hope they push back hard and say: "Why don't you ask her? She's an adult."

Who wouldn't want to get a hijab from Melania?

Meh, who cares, but if I had to guess, I'd say she will, or else Trump will be made to look like a hypocrite...again.

-- How is Trump a hypocrite if his wife does something, or do you assume he controls how she dresses? Do you think Barack Obama force his wife to wear a head scarf, or does she have agency?

Matt Sablan said...

Do you think he told her she couldn't wear it, and Michelle Obama wanted to wear it?

Insist on visiting Mecca.

Seriously; I find it incredibly weird that anyone would think Melania's decision to wear or not wear a head scarf has any bearing on Donald Trump. Things like this are why people assume the left is looking for reasons to gin up anger.

I'm on the fence with this. On the one had, when in Rome do as the Romans do. On the other hand, screw the Saudis.

If my wife visited Saudi Arabia, could she get away without covering her hair? Or would Melania (or Michelle) get away with it only because of their connection with powerful men?

When in Rome, do as the Romanians do....

So he should tell his wife what to do?

1. No they couldn't - I know this for a fact.
2. Yes.

Would Michelle Obama cover her head at a Jewish funeral?

Yes, because he should take control of this woman, and bend her to his will.

Or are you just saying that she is incapable of making a decision on her own?

Or would you be surprised if she takes the lead by asking him what he thinks, and what would benefit him and the county most? Should a woman even do that?

There is a Trump tweet for everything!

Will she wear a veil at the Vatican?

I'd say Inga is the one looking like a hypocrite... again.

Sure, she should wear a headscarf in Saudi Arabia. It's the Saudis' shithole of a country, & guests should show respect to their hosts.

I'm certainly not fond of Wahhabist Islam, but I'm even less fond of secular moral know-it-alls who insist that their own cultural prejudices are the pinnacle of mankind's moral development.

If I were the Trumps, however, I would stop short of tossing a homosexual off a tower in order to appear neighborly. That could really gin up some poor PR.

She can if she chooses. It would be appropriate for the physical (and perhaps political) climate.

I say she wears a headscarf.... with a large "John 3:16" embroidered on it.

I'm pretty sure more leftists heads would explode than Islamic ones.

To those who say "when in Rome," what do Saudis do when they come here? I would be very disappointed in Malenia if she does wear one. She would be a poor representative of her country if she did.

As for Trump's tweet, he wasn't president then. He was speaking for himself. Now he speaks for all of us.

Unofficially? I know how some Saudis have behaved while they were here, or elsewhere abroad.
Most certainly not as they do at home.

Not wearing a scarf in Riyadh, is like walking around naked in a Wal-Mart.

Riyadh has two types of women: 1) Penguins like the Catholics, and 2) Stylish but conservative dress.

You can tell the expatriots because they are all wearing denim.

There is no cleavage, and no shorts in Riyadh. It's a schoolmarm's heaven.

I like the headscarf with the repeating pattern of " NYT is Fake News...WaPo is Fake News...CNN is Fake News."

I think the last white non-Muslim to do it (in disguise) was Richard Burton. His intense preparation included circumcision, for two reasons. Firstly, he didn't want to be outed while urinatiing. Secondly, he rogered the natives relentlessly wherever he went and didn't want to be outed that way either. One of the greatest men in an era of great men. Might be unpopular now though.

If President Trump went to a Jewish wedding, funeral, bar mitzvah etc would he wear a yarmulke?

If Melania went to a Catholic service, would she wear a scarf or head covering?

Seems to me that it is basic politeness to wear a head scarf.

OTOH, I am not quite as comfortable with her wearing one in Saudi Arabia where it is required by law. Not wearing one seems like making a political statement. Maybe that is the right statement to make, maybe not.

Whichever she does, I will be OK with it but have some niggles about whether it was the right decision.

Sodal,

Yes, Richard Burton was a fascinating personality and yes, he went all sorts of places where he was not supposed to go. His books are interesting as is the biography "The Devil Drives" by Fawn Brodie.

Good to see someone else knows who he is.

For the youngsters, this is not the Richard Burton who was married to Liz Taylor.
